As a 6yr old, I grew up in the busy life of New Delhi into a well-settled family, free from the vicissitudes of life. Yet, I often found myself questioning the meaning of my existence and whether I could succeed in manifesting my desire in making this world a better place.
While I often found my happiness and joy in dance and other creative pursuits, I always felt a deeper longing to expand my horizons and contribute to the world in a bigger way. As I would sit to contemplate my life and consider the possibility of taking steps to pursue these dreams, the next thoughts that would often follow would be the following, “Will I be able to do it?”, “Who will like it?”, "Is there a market for this?" or “What will my family say?” etc. The doubting Thomas in my mind always got it's way. I spent much time harboring and accepting its conclusions rather than giving myself the opportunity to take the next step towards what I deeply loved doing.
After years of harboring these feelings and playing tug of war with them, I decided to go for a nature walk one day. I had heard and read from many the ability of nature to refresh and give us a renewed perspective towards life. After much ado, I decided to give this method a try by going for a stroll around my park. As I was walking, I was awaiting for the inspiration and my hearts calling to come to me like a gushing breeze that would hopefully change my life forever. While the breeze did blow a few grass blades away, being in the sheer presence of nature made my heart swelled up as the thought of wanting to inspire and make a difference in people’s lives suddenly engulfed me. This sweet feeling of fulfillment, success, peace, harmony and joy filled me up for up to 30 seconds. The next few thoughts that followed took over me for the rest of the day. “You're too mature for your age!”, “How on earth are you going to do it?”, “You don’t have the skills to do it!”, “How will you look after yourself?”. "Who will support you?" etc...
As the Doubting Thomas had made a special place in my life, sheltering and protecting me from the possibility of falling into the trap called my dreams, I decided to play a little game with it this time. I decided to give way for these doubts to really see where they could take me and then I did something interesting. I paid attention to my thoughts and starting ‘digging’. I was naturally and obviously scared of the possibility of fulfilling my heart’s desire and so the first question I asked myself was, “what’s the worst that can happen to you if you don’t succeed in helping others”. “I’m not good enough” was the first thought and feeling that instantly popped out of nowhere. Once again, I braced myself to dig a little deeper. I probed further by asking myself, "Whats the worst that could happen to you if you feel you are not good enough?". The very first thought that popped up again was "Everybody will leave me and I will be alone". Astonished by what was coming up, I continued to play this game till I arrived at a point where I could see myself going no where further.
In that moment, I felt an epiphany strike me like the sound of Thor's hammer. Not only did I carry these fears within me but I also carried the answers to these fears with myself!
As I started digging deeper I found my initial fear to be lost in the pages of history and what was to come was all the more surprising and astonishing. The fear of not being connected, loved and supported by Creation (universal energy/ Source) was the underlying belief, creating the illusion of this fear in my mind.
This revelation changed my life forever, for it changed my perspective to my thoughts itself! I then went on a rather relentless search to find a technique by which I could transform these negative patterns into those that could empower me to change the way I see myself and forge a life of happiness, fun and fulfillment.
Theta Healing by Vianna Stibal came knocking on my door step as I was gifted this book by a dear friend who knew of my quest for self-healing.
